Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) appointed John Fiorentino as a managing director within the firm’s private equity performance improvement (PEPI) group. Fiorentino’s expertise unlocking procurement and supply chain-driven value creation, in support of private equity (PE) firms and their portfolio companies, provides the perfect blend of experience to expand A&M’s procurement and sourcing group’s strategic capabilities.
Fiorentino advises clients on supply chain solutions that account for increasing uncertainty marked by potential tariffs, inflation and the challenges surrounding complex PE deal activity. Fiorentino’s hire bolsters PEPI’s supply chain line of service and expands the firm’s ability to address complex supply chain matters.
With over 25 years of consulting and industrial experience, Fiorentino specializes in helping PE companies and their management teams derive value from cost of goods discipline, developing a systemic approach to procurement and upskilling their procurement teams to control and minimize external spend and drive incremental benefits from suppliers. His experience spans the full set of supply chain value levers, including procurement, manufacturing, distribution and logistics, with a particular focus on process industries, such as automotive, industrial, consumer product goods, mobility and packaging.
“Noted for his ability to help PE firms and portfolio companies realize value by untangling knotty supply chain issues, John’s significant, large-scale project expertise will benefit our clients,” Christopher Kulp, a managing director and leader of the firm’s procurement and sourcing group, said. “He understands the cross-functional levers of value, along with knowing how and when to pull them. That knowledge will help clients extract their assets’ maximum potential, drive growth and capitalize on the opportunities hiding behind supply chain challenges.”
Fiorentino’s track record includes leading multi-functional cost transformations and overseeing pre- and post-close operational diligence for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) to capture substantial value for private equity-owned companies. His supply chain expertise covers a variety of different industries and sectors in manufacturing, distribution and business services.
Prior to joining A&M, Fiorentino served as partner with A.T. Kearney’s PE practice, where he focused on operational value creation for large and midcap PE funds. His previous roles include business development and project leadership at Opera Solutions and Mitchell Madison Group, as well as six years of engineering and plant supervision in the specialty chemical industry.
“John’s extensive procurement and supply chain management background is rooted in the technical expertise required to navigate growing macro-economic, deal and multi-sector complexities,” Markus Lahrkamp and Tim Keneally, PEPI managing directors for A&M, jointly said. “His experience further leverages A&M’s integrated platform for ensuring a seamless connection between operational strategy and real-world execution. John’s approach aligns with our results-driven focus for helping clients optimize performance and unlock value. John coming onboard will further enhance our leadership position in solving complex supply chain issues for our PE clients.”
Fiorentino earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from MIT, a master’s in chemical engineering from Yale University, and an MBA in finance from Columbia Business School.
