Millstein announced it hired Mark Walker to join Millstein as managing director. Walker will lead the firm’s sovereign advisory business.

Walker brings extensive international restructuring, having served most recently as managing director and head of sovereign advisory at Rothschild in London and New York. Walker led the Rothschild team that advised Cyprus with the restructuring and recapitalization of its banking system and negotiations with the IMF, the European Commission and the European Central Bank.

During his career, Walker has held a variety of executive positions both in the legal and finance industries. Prior to serving as Managing Director at Rothschild, Walker was a senior advisor at Lazard Freres in Paris, France. While in this role, Walker was the co-leader of the Lazard team acting as financial adviser to the Hellenic Republic in connection with the management and renegotiation of its sovereign debt and related matters. Walker was previously the global managing partner and chair of the executive committee at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, a leading international law firm, where he spent over 40 years. Walker provided innovative financial and legal advice to over 20 countries, their national oil companies and state-owned enterprises in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa on liability management, infrastructure finance, international joint ventures, restructurings and privatizations.

“As we continue to grow our advisory practice, our firm’s commitment to providing clients with exceptional service and innovative solutions remain our top priority,” said Jim Millstein, Millstein & Co.’s founder. “To that end, we are thrilled that Mark, a globally recognized financial services and legal professional with over 40 years of both domestic and international restructuring experience, has decided to join Millstein & Co. I am confident that Mark’s extensive expertise in advising on public and private sector financing and business transactions will prove invaluable to our firm.”

“I am delighted to join Millstein & Co. as managing director,” said Walker. “I look forward to working alongside Millstein & Co.’s talented team as we continue to build on the firm’s strong track record of successfully solving the most complex corporate and public finance problems in today’s market.”
