AlixPartners Appoints Lioliakis as Managing Director, Financial Svs

AlixPartners announced the appointment of Nicolas Lioliakis as managing director in its global Financial Services Practice. Lioliakis will be based in Paris and adds to the rapidly growing practice, which has recently seen the appointment of managing directors Caio Gilberti in London, Claudio Scardovi in Milan, Frank Sui and William Callender in New York, and Bob Hedges and Teresa Epperson in Boston.

Lioliakis joined from Bain & Company, where he had been a senior partner since 2006. At Bain, Lioliakis was client head for European financial institutions, specializing in organic and non-organic growth strategies with a focus on retail and commercial banking markets. Lioliakis was also head of Bain’s European merger integration practice.

Fred Crawford, CEO of AlixPartners, said: “Around the world, the fundamentals of the global financial services sector are being called into question and institutions that once relied on stable and predictable growth are having to prepare for a volatile and uncertain future. Nicolas brings to AlixPartners a wealth of experience in the European banking and insurance sectors, adding to our rapid expansion globally in the sector. Having led efficiency programs and strategy changes at a number of Europe’s largest financial institutions, he will play an integral role in the unique, highly results-oriented support we offer our clients.”

Prior to joining Bain in 2006, Lioliakis was a director and market manager for France at Mercer Oliver Wyman (now Oliver Wyman). He was co-head of that firm’s European strategy practice, in charge of coverage activities for several French and European banks and insurers. Lioliakis also spent two years as vice president in charge of multi-distribution strategies at Credit Agricole, the eighth-largest bank in the world. He started his career in 1992 with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), where he spent seven years, ultimately as a senior manager specializing in financial institutions and M&A projects.

Laurent Petizon, managing director and head of AlixPartners’ Paris office, commented: “This is a very important time for the financial services sector and institutions are looking for strategic support to help them navigate the rapidly changing environment. Nicolas has extensive experience of working through complex restructurings, reorganizations and repositionings at some of Europe’s largest financial institutions. He will be an invaluable asset for our clients, who expect results that have a real impact on the performance of their businesses.”
