Joseph Nemia is Head of Asset Based Lending (ABL) at TD Bank. As a key member of the Commercial Banking leadership team, he oversees a group of experienced lenders focused on delivering financing solutions that help clients leverage assets and maximize liquidity. His leadership emphasizes strong customer relationships and strategic thinking to meet evolving financial needs.
Joe’s career spans more than 40 years, including 14 years at TD. He previously held senior leadership roles at RBS Citizens, CIT and GE Commercial Finance. At GE, he was a founding member of the ABL platform and played a key role in its national expansion. He completed GE’s Global Business Management training in Tokyo and earned Black Belt certification in Six Sigma, reinforcing his analytical and operational strengths.
Joe is committed to the community and currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Loyola School in New York City and at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center. He is a former Chairman and President and a current Director for the Secured Finance Network (fka Commercial Finance Association).
For Joe, leadership is rooted in legacy. “It’s the people you influence, those I’ve hired, trained and developed, that lead to a successful legacy in finance. Watching them grow in their own careers while impacting the industry is what I’m most proud of.”
Looking back, he likens his journey to running a marathon, a challenge he started outside of his work life. Joe says, “Every day is an opportunity to improve and learn how to do new things. That mindset keeps me energized.”
Joe’s legacy is also rooted in family. “I’ve been lucky to grow up around this business, as my father was an ABL leader,” he says. “Now my son is continuing the tradition. Working closely with the next generation of lenders will keep me learning as both a leader and a lender.”
