Jamie Edmonson has established herself as a significant force in the specialty finance industry through her strategic knowledge, commitment to advocacy, and mentorship.
Her professional journey began during law school, working at Stutman, Treister & Glatt and externing for Judge Alex Kozinski in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Fascinated by the complex restructurings, Edmonson joined Skadden’s Corporate Restructuring group in Los Angeles as its first associate, mentored by Richard Levin, co-author of Bankruptcy Code. This early foundation shaped a career characterized by diligence and innovation.
Edmonson has played a role in numerous landmark transactions and complex bankruptcy cases, including PP&L Electric Utilities’ $800 million senior secured notes issuance — recognized as the North American Securitization of the Year in 2001. Her representation in high profile bankruptcy cases — including Energy Future Holdings, Owens Corning, AbitibiBowater, Mallinckrodt plc, Lord & Taylor and RTW Retailwinds — demonstrates her ability to navigate intricate financial restructurings and maximize stakeholder value.
Among her proudest professional moments was representing unsecured creditors in the contentious Mariner Health Central case, where she helped secure recoveries for vulnerable claimants, including elderly residents and disadvantaged workers.
Edmonson broadened her perspective during a hiatus from law, serving as Managing Director at a national turnaround advisory firm. There, she helped lead the earliest subprime mortgage companies through Chapter 11.
Her commitment to inclusion has significantly shaped her industry presence. As Educational Chair of the TMA Global Network of Women and a mentor in Girls Just Want to Have Funds, she actively supports female talent within finance and law.
In addition to mentoring, she assists in shaping future legal talent by judging prestigious competitions like the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition and American Bankruptcy Institute’s Annual Duberstein Moot Court Competition.
Throughout her career, Edmonson has embodied a standard that inspires respect and sets a precedent.
