Harlow to Lead CohnReznick Cannabis Practice

byIan Koplin

in People

CohnReznick named Michael Harlow the leader of its Cannabis Industry practice, expanding Harlow’s leadership role within the firm as he continues to serve as co-practice director – DC-Metro Tax.

Harlow advises clients throughout the supply chain ranging from independent operators to vertically integrated operators in the largest legal cannabis markets in the country. He is a nationally recognized and sought-after cannabis and tax thought leader who frequently speaks on webinars and at industry and public policy conferences for organizations such as the Congressional Black Caucus Conference, AICPA, and Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition. Harlow has been quoted in national publications including Forbes, CPA Trendlines, and numerous cannabis industry publications. He has served as a guest lecturer on accounting and tax issues within the cannabis industry for the accounting programs at the University of Maryland and Howard University.

“Having served as the firm’s cannabis tax leader since the inception of the practice six years ago, Michael is uniquely positioned to help clients improve financial and operational performance while leveraging strategic tax opportunities within the sector,” Gary Levy, chief strategy and growth officer, CohnReznick, said. “Michael has a deep understanding of the issues facing the industry and will be instrumental in continuing to grow the practice. In addition, I would like to thank Ira Weinstein for his leadership and dedication in building a robust and innovative Cannabis practice.”

“When the practice was formalized in 2018, adult-use cannabis was only legal in Oregon, Colorado, and Washington. Today, 38 states have functioning medical programs and 23 allow recreational adult usage,” Harlow said. “The dynamic opportunities that this industry provides for a diverse range of entrepreneurs and companies have grown exponentially over the past few years and will continue to do so. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues and clients to identify and build upon these opportunities for many years to come.”
