Grant Thornton, a provider of audit and assurance, tax and advisory services, hired Alasdair Trotter as national managing principal of growth advisory within the advisory services practice. Trotter assumed the role from interim leader Scott McGurl, a longstanding principal with the firm who will continue to provide transaction advisory services to clients.

Trotter, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience, has advised senior leaders on all aspects of navigating their organizations through transformational change. As the Grant Thornton’s national managing principal of growth advisory, Trotter will help clients foster new business models and identify high-potential, long-term growth opportunities.

“From strategy and transformation to implementing innovation at all levels of an organization, Alasdair brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Grant Thornton’s advisory practice,” Wade Kruse, national managing partner for advisory services at Grant Thornton, said. “His long track record of providing growth-focused solutions will prove immensely valuable for our clients and the dedicated team he will lead.”

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Trotter was a partner and managing director at Innosight, the strategy and innovation practice of Huron Consulting. During his time at Innosight, he also invested in a variety of internal and external ventures, including Innosight Ventures, COGSecure, and Guaranteach, where he served as chief operating officer. Prior to joining Innosight, Trotter served as a senior business manager at Capital One, where he managed marketing strategy and led innovation for one of the company’s domestic credit card businesses.

“I’m honored to join a firm that places quality, client service and culture at the heart of everything they do,” Trotter said. “Companies today are facing an enormous number of challenges in a constantly shifting business environment. I’m excited to work with a team of forward-thinking professionals to help our clients grow and accomplish their strategic business goals.”

Based in Los Angeles, Trotter is a frequent speaker and lecturer on strategy and innovation — and he has taught a variety of graduate-level classes at Stanford, New York University and Dartmouth.
