Bay Banks of Virginia, holding company of Virginia Commonwealth Bank (“VCB”) and VCB Financial Group, hired Judy C. Gavant as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Gavant will lead VCB’s financial operations, including internal and external reporting, accounting, asset liability management, investments, planning and controls. She will take over the position from James A. Wilson, Jr., who retired after nearly 30 years at VCB.

Gavant has more than 36 years of experience in accounting, taxation, finance, and mergers and acquisitions. She most recently served as senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer of Xenith Bankshares. Prior to joining Xenith, Gavant held a variety of positions with Owens & Minor, Tredegar Corporation and Dominion Energy. She began her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she served in the firm’s audit and tax practices.

“We want to wish Jim the best in his retirement and thank him for his years of service to our company,” said Randal R. Greene, Bay Banks president and CEO. “Judy is a highly-respected and seasoned financial executive with [a] proven track record. We are excited to welcome Judy to our executive leadership team.”

“I am thrilled to be joining Virginia Commonwealth Bank. I have enjoyed working with a financial institution and look forward to being part of a team that will extend our leadership to the next level,” Gavant said.
