General Electric elected Steven M. Mollenkopf to the company’s board of directors. Mollenkopf is the CEO and a director of Qualcomm, a developer of mobile technology.

In connection with the election of Mollenkopf, the board of directors increased its size from 16 to 17 directors.

The board of directors has determined that Mollenkopf is an independent director under the New York Stock Exchange listing standards and the company’s independence guidelines, as set forth in its governance principles. Mollenkopf will participate in the compensation and benefit program for non-management directors.

According to an 8-K filing, the annual fee paid for service as an independent director of General Electric is $275,000.
