Atalaya Capital Management, an alternative asset manager focused on private credit and special opportunities investing, added Bharath Subramanian as a managing director in the firm’s specialty finance practice, which is focused on providing capital to consumer finance, commercial finance, and other financial services businesses. In this role, Subramanian will work closely with the existing investment team to source and execute a broad range of structured capital solutions, including asset financings, portfolio purchases, corporate level debt solutions and equity transactions.

On the heels of a very active 2021, where Atalaya completed 55 private specialty finance transactions, the Atalaya portfolio continued to expand throughout 2022. With this increase, it has seen an expansion of proprietary opportunities to help support growth for its existing borrowers and select new relationships. Atalaya believes these transactions will help its lending partners continue to perform during the ongoing market turbulence and thrive long-term, while also continuing to deliver attractive and differentiated risk-adjusted returns to the firm’s limited partners which include sovereign wealth, public and corporate pensions, foundations, endowments and high-net-worth individuals.

“Bharath’s experience, relationships and investing skills are a strong addition to our existing capital solutions capabilities,” David Aidi, partner and co-head of specialty finance at Atalaya, said.

“Bharath will help us sharpen our focus as we continue to develop an increasingly holistic capital solutions effort for our borrowers and partners,” Ray Chan, partner and co-head of specialty finance at Atalaya, said.

Subramanian brings to Atalaya more than 20 years of experience investing in financial services. Most recently, Subramanian helped lead Bayview Asset Management’s expansion into private equity and special situations investing. Prior, he was a partner at Capital Z Partners, where he spent more than 12 years as a financial services private equity investor and served on the boards of multiple portfolio companies.
