Carter Bank & Trust Promotes Two Executives, Hires a Third

byAmanda Koprowski

in People

Carter Bank & Trust promoted its internal audit director Christy Meier to senior vice president and its regulatory risk management director Loran Adams to executive vice president. The bank also hired Paul Carney as senior vice president and director of human resources.

While independently accountable to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, Meier will report administratively to CEO Litz Van Dyke.

“As we continue to position Carter Bank & Trust to grow, we thought it was important to incorporate industry-recognized professional standards into our overall internal audit infrastructure,” said Van Dyke.

Meier has more than 15 years of experience as an internal audit professional and is well-versed in the performance and fraud risk assessments. While at Carter, she developed a reputation for maintaining a best in class internal audit program while challenging senior management to adopt appropriate policies, procedures and controls. She was also responsible for assessing the governance at all management levels

Adams has three decades of internal auditing and risk management experience in the banking industry. Prior to joining Carter Bank & Trust in January 2017 as senior vice president, he was the director of internal audit for George Bank and Trust in Augusta, GA.

On Adams’ promotion, Van Dyke commented, “In a short period of time with Carter Bank & Trust, Loran Adams has been influential in building a comprehensive enterprise risk management infrastructure that will position us for future growth. His analytics, strategic thinking and ability to work collaboratively with our executive team make him a valuable contributor to our overall governance practices.”

Carney is an accomplished author and speaker in human resources, where he gives advice to jobseekers on how best to qualify and quantify their career value. He has more than 30 years of experience in business and IT and as an HR professional and career advocate. Prior to joining Carter Bank & Trust, Carney served in various HR leadership roles for the Navy Federal Credit Union, the largest credit union in the world with more than 17,000 employees worldwide.

Headquartered in Martinsville, VA, Carter Bank & Trust is a state-chartered community bank with 105 branches and more than 1,000 employees in Virginia and North Carolina.
