Global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) added Elan Ben-Avi as a managing director in its North America commercial restructuring (NACR) practice. Ben-Avi advises clients on multinational restructurings, operational turnarounds and distressed transactions across multiple industries, including industrial, maritime supply chains, consumer packaged goods (CPG) and retail. He works with companies and investor constituents on complex restructuring matters, both in and out of court, with a focus on business turnaround plans, restructuring strategies, cash flow forecasting and management, bankruptcy oversight, negotiating financing and leading business and asset sales.
Prior to joining A&M, Ben-Avi served as a managing director, turnaround and restructuring at Ankura Consulting. Previously, he had served as a partner with a lower middle-market private equity firm and as a restructuring director at Getzler Henrich, representing debtors, sponsors and creditors. In those positions, Ben-Avi held leadership roles including as chief operating officer and board member of a national fitness company, interim CEO and chairman of a national beauty retailer, chairman of a global accessories brand and interim CEO of a personal care business.
“Elan’s expertise enhances our ability to help clients navigate an increasingly complex turnaround environment and identify potential future pathways to profitability,” Jeff Stegenga, managing director and A&M’s North American commercial restructuring leader, said. “With an unpredictable global economy and continued geopolitical uncertainty, Elan’s steady hand will help clients work though current challenges and pinpoint future issues. His approach aligns with A&M’s heritage of operational excellence and commitment to driving change that delivers value.”
“Elan’s experience leading large-scale restructurings is well suited to solve for clients’ distressed transaction matters,” Brian Fox, managing director and co-leader of NACR’s Eastern Region, said. “The breadth and depth of his financial advisory and interim management expertise dovetails with A&M’s mission to address problems head-on that maximizes value for all stakeholders.”
Ben-Avi earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the State University of New York at Albany and is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and American Bankruptcy Institute.
