Alvarez & Marsal’s private equity performance improvement group hired Tamseel Butt as a managing director within its insurance and risk advisory services practice.

A 25-year industry expert with strategy, operations and technology experience, Butt specializes in operational improvement in the insurance sector. He focuses on helping companies identify areas of performance improvement in their organizations and creating frameworks to accelerate transformation and strengthen operations.

Before joining A&M, Butt led strategy, transformation and operations for MetLife’s life and annuities business and managed its global centers of excellence, supporting business growth, optimization, and technology portfolios. During his tenure at the company, Butt managed a global program portfolio with projects including digital innovation, process simplification and cost improvements.

Butt has also held roles at AIG, overseeing the transformation of its global financial planning and analytics function, and at EY, where he led insurance operations improvement advisory services. Additionally, he previously served as a partner at IBM and as a managing director at BearingPoint.

“Tamseel’s in-depth insurance sector knowledge, along with his wealth of insurance transformation and process improvement experience, enhances A&M’s capabilities to identify and improve financial outcomes for our clients. With such experience, Tamseel will be integral to supporting the planned growth of our insurance strategy, operations and CFO solutions by augmenting our deep financial skills with technology and operations knowledge,” James McDermott, managing director and leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s insurance and risk advisory services practice, said.

“A&M’s bias towards action and pragmatic approach differentiates our ability to help clients identify risk and navigate the adjoining operational, investment and value creation opportunities. As trusted advisors, clients turn to A&M for the kind of experience and industry expertise that Tamseel brings to our firm,” Nick Alvarez, managing director and national practice leader of Alvarez & Marsal’s private equity performance improvement group, said. “His extensive insurance performance improvement and large-scale business transformation experience will benefit our corporate clients, as well as our private equity clients and their portfolio companies, regardless of industry focus.”
