While direct lending opportunities continue to grow, Pemberton has added selective investment strategies to its direct lending offerings that cater to broader investor needs, including a risk sharing strategy, net asset value (NAV) financing and working capital finance. The firm’s stable of alternative investment strategies also include senior loans, mid-market debt, strategic credit and collateralized loan obligations.

Pemberton’s working capital finance strategy has grown significantly over the past year, raising $1 billion as of February 2023. Through this strategy, which utilizes an open-ended fund structure, Pemberton invests in receivables, payables and inventory financing for large and mid-market companies in both the United States and in Europe. Pemberton invests in a wide range of sectors using this strategy but primairly focuses on IT and food businesses. The strategy utilizes a zero duration model with very low volatility, with Pemberton reporting zero defaults and zero losses since inception, although it notes that past performance is not an indicator of future results.

Pemberton also offers a short-term alternative credit strategy to institutional investors. It believes the strategy provides a stable NAV and strong returns compared to traditional fixed-income assets. In addition, Pemberton emphasizes responsible investing and corporate responsibility throughout its investment process. It believes environmental, social and governance factors are fundamental to achieving long-term value for its limited partners.
