William Blair, a global boutique with expertise in investment banking, investment management and private wealth management, hired Daniel Budde as a senior director in the firm’s private capital advisory team. Budde is based in Boston and focused on fund placement and secondary advisory.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Dan to William Blair’s private capital advisory team, where he will contribute to our holistic private capital solutions for clients,” Mike Custar, Jerome Wallace and Brian Williams, co-heads of private capital advisory at William Blair, said in a joint statement. “Dan has an exceptional reputation and broad network among both private equity managers and limited partners and will be an invaluable resource to our group and our clients as we continue to broaden and strengthen our business.”

Before joining William Blair, Budde was a senior managing director at Manulife Investment Management, where he was responsible for overseeing the growth of its private equity fund portfolio to approximately $9 billion over the course of 17 years. At Manulife, Budde served on that firm’s investment committees for mezzanine lending, primary and secondary fund investments, equity co-investments and GP-led secondary investments.

“I am thrilled to join William Blair’s private capital advisory team and support the group’s fund placement and advisory resources while contributing to its growth and commitment to client service,” Budde said. “As an LP for 17 years, I had the privilege of working with many of the professionals on the Private Capital Advisory team and I can confidently state that the team William Blair has assembled is truly exceptional. The private capital advisory team delivers the highest-quality strategic solutions to financial sponsors executing the most sophisticated and industry-shaping transactions in the market today.”
