Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), a member of SMBC Group, hired Paul Burke to lead the firm’s newly created capital solutions group.

Based in New York, Burke will work across the SMBC Americas division banking businesses to evolve balance sheet optimization strategies while advising clients on loan portfolio and capital optimization transactions with a focus on financial institutions and sponsor clients.

With more than 20 years of industry experience, Burke joined SMBC from Morgan Stanley where he spent more than 12 years working in both New York and London. He most recently served as the head of securitized products capital markets in New York. Prior to Morgan Stanley, he worked in London in various banking roles at firms including Nomura and Royal Bank of Scotland. Burke started his career at Deloitte and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
