Cindi Giglio
Partner, Insolvency and Restructuring Practice
Katten

Cindi Giglio has served as counsel in some of the most high-profile Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of the last two decades. In 2022, she was tasked with working on yet another, as she led the Katten team in advising a global restructuring and investment firm on its acquisition of the assets of a U.S.-based building products materials manufacturer though a public auction and sale.

Considered a “whiz” in bankruptcy matters, Giglio has used her substantial knowledge of the retail, commercial and industrial sectors to negotiate dozens of distressed acquisitions. She also guides clients through the restructuring and bankruptcy processes and counsels banks and financial institutions on best practices to avoid being the subject of such litigation. She leverages her deep experience in both transactional work and bankruptcy litigation to further help her clients through challenges and changes facing their businesses.

Giglio was handpicked to be part of a team that moved to Kattern in 2018 after spending 14 years rising the rankings at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle. She then left Katten to spend a year as associate general counsel at Gordon Brothers before returning. Her experience advising on legal strategy, transaction structuring and negotiation for a global investment and liquidation firm like Gordon Brothers has given her a hands-on appreciation of the nuances that drive a deal and clients’ practical commercial considerations.

Giglio understands her clients’ business goals, concerns and wide-ranging pressure points. From middle-market businesses to retail behemoths experiencing financial distress, she counsels clients on strategies to maximize the value of their assets, whether through bankruptcies, restructurings or other means. She also helps solvent clients protect themselves in their dealings with distressed counterparties and regularly counsels liquidators of merchandise and other assets of bankrupt companies.
