Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, an affiliate of global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), announced that Jeffrey Schwarcz has joined the firm’s tax practice as a senior director in New York, bolstering its ability to advise clients on acquisitions, reorganizations, dispositions, leveraged buy-outs, recapitalizations and other tax matters.

Prior to joining A&M, Schwarcz was a senior manager in the mergers and acquisitions tax practice at a New York-based big four firm, where he provided advisory services, including tax due diligence, model review and structuring. Prior to that, he was an attorney at Andrews Kurth, where he advised clients on tax-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, tax-free reorganizations, joint ventures, securities offerings and cross-border investments. He also advised clients on debt restructurings, both in and out of bankruptcy.

With experience as an attorney, a consultant and a Certified Public Accountant, Schwarcz specializes in providing strategic counsel on domestic and international private equity and corporate tax matters, the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, inbound and outbound transactions and tax controversies. He has served clients in a variety of industries, including banking and financial services, energy and infrastructure, entertainment, manufacturing, retail, technology as well as wholesale and distribution.

“As private equity and corporate players continue taking advantage of the favorable rate environment and look to sell assets that have appreciated considerably in the last few years, they need the industry’s most practiced advisors to ensure transactions are structured in a tax-efficient manner,” said Ernesto Perez, global practice leader of Alvarez & Marsal Taxand in New York. “Jeff brings the kind of diverse background and deep expertise that ensures our ability to help clients make complex deals.”
