Katten named Kimberly Smith the new global chair of its corporate department. Smith will lead more than 125 attorneys housed in the department and succeed Mark R. Grossmann, who served as global chair of the group for more than a decade.
Monroe Capital has been named the 2018 Lender of the Year by Mergers & Acquisitions, an independent, New York City-based publication covering all aspects of middle-market deal-making.
According to Bloomberg, buyers spent $3.8 trillion on mergers and acquisitions in 2015, the highest amount ever, surpassing the previous record set in 2007.
Mergers & Acquisitions reported that October saw only 154 completed mid-market deals, far less than the 258 deals completed in October 2014.
Bloomberg reported that M&A activity is on track to reach record levels this year after a first half dominated by mega deals, even as valuations reach new highs.

According to a survey conducted by Babson College and directed by members of the Association for Corporate Growth, the middle-market for M&A has significantly improved in the past two years. However, the report notes that growth in 2013 will be flat’ versus 2012.
