What you will do:

The Senior Managing Director – Commercial Services at Sterling National Bank is to successfully manage the combined activities of the former Factoring & Trade Finance and Payroll Finance groups in directing the division growth and profitability with a focus on relationship management, business generation, client retention and business development activities. In this position, the SMD is required to demonstrate strong business acumen and strategic insight when serving our clients. As a trusted advisor, utilizing their experience as well as areas of expertise that include extensive industry knowledge in various business specialties, the SMD should best be able to guide the client to the best banking services and products at Sterling for the client. Additionally, this position will oversee all Managing Director relationship management, providing consultative advice on products and services to meet client needs and enhance banking relationships. The Senior Managing Director strategically develops/executes business plans that are consistent with the financial and market development goals of SNB.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop/maintain extensive network of business contacts, community leaders, executive management clients, prospect opportunities and referral sources, in order to generate revenue
  • Grow and retain relationships with targeted client group by coordinating all aspects of the client relationship; ensure appropriate resources are dedicated to facilitate successful outcome; responsible for relationship review and overall relationship profitability.
  • Oversee all sales and service activities of the Relationship Managers to ensure that current and potential clients receive the best possible service.
  • Identify, recruit, and retain top talent into the division; develop appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength.
  • Provide colleagues with timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback; ensure professional development of team; provide challenging opportunities that enhance career growth recognize and reward employees for accomplishments.
  • Create high performance culture that demands accountability for superior results that will be beneficial to our clients as well as foster employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures

Specific Job Related Education & Skills:

  • For this position, you must have 10-15 years of experience leading Business Groups, Divisions and or Teams.
  • Candidates with advanced degrees (Associates, Bachelor’s, and/or Master’s) preferred, yet a High School diploma or GED is required. Candidates with some combination of coursework and experience, or else extensive related professional experience, are eligible for consideration.
  • Ability to build and expand trusting relationships and partnerships.
  • Knowledge of credit and financial analysis techniques and accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking regulations, lending policies, procedures and techniques and well-demonstrated understanding of loan risk factors in the Factoring and Payroll Finance industries.
  • Exceptional leadership skills; contributes to and drives business strategy through team motivation and effectively empowering employees.
