Webster Financial announced that Charles “Chad” Wilkins was named executive vice president of Webster and Webster Bank, and head of HSA Bank effective January 3.

Wilkins, 52, brings more than 25 years of banking and health insurance industry experience to HSA Bank. He was most recently president of his own consulting practice specializing in healthcare and financial services. Prior to that, he was general manager and CEO of OptumHealth Financial Services, a division of UnitedHealth Group in Minnesota, where he managed all aspects of the $400 million financial services division with more than 500 employees. Wilkins began his career at US Bank in Minneapolis where he had roles of increasing responsibility over a 15-year period.

With more than $2 billion in deposits and assets under management, HSA Bank provides tax-advantaged healthcare savings plans to about 600,000 consumers nationwide. Webster Bank is a leading regional bank serving businesses and consumers from metro New York to Boston. Wilkins will report to Jim Smith, chairman and CEO of Webster.

“Chad’s unique background in both health insurance and banking will prove valuable in moving HSA Bank forward at this exciting time for consumer directed healthcare plans,” Smith said.
