Pemberton, an alternative credit manager, appointed Harriet Steel a partner and head of global clients. In her new role, Steel will lead the development of the firm’s client business globally. She will oversee business development, investor relations, marketing, communications and sustainable investing.
Steel has more than 30 years of experience in financial services. Most recently, she was head of international business development at Federated Hermes, where she also served as a member of the executive committee and a board director of the international business.
After joining Hermes Investment Management in 2011, Steel helped transform Hermes from its origins as the internal asset manager of British Telecom Pension Scheme to an independent investment management business serving more than 800 institutional and distribution clients globally. Her contribution to the growth of the business led to the sale of Hermes Investment Management to Federated Investors, leading to the creation of Federated Hermes in 2020.
Steel started her career in finance holding roles at banking institutions including Bankers Trust and Morgan Stanley. She subsequently established Portico Advisors, an advisory business raising assets for hedge funds, private equity and real estate strategies.
“Harriet’s extensive experience in financial markets and her strong track record in asset management are invaluable and will be key in supporting the strategic build out of our platform and the global client franchise as we remain committed to deliver leading alternative credit strategies to our clients,” Symon Drake-Brockman, managing partner at Pemberton, said.
“Pemberton’s impressive growth record, its evolution towards a multi-strategy alternative credit offering and a market environment with opportunity for further growth make it an exciting time to join,” Steel said. “I look forward to working with the team as we look to define Pemberton’s next chapter and deliver continued value to our clients.”
