Global law firm Ropes & Gray named Matthew Jacobson, an accomplished attorney with experience handling a full spectrum of buy- and sell-side M&A transactions, a partner in the firm’s mergers and acquisitions practice.

Jacobson, who will practice in the firm’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, has advised on transactions and legal issues of national and international significance for more than two decades. He has guided an array of deals—including acquisitions, carve-outs, spin-outs, joint ventures, alliances and corporate divestitures—for Fortune 100 technology and life sciences companies, private equity firms, and other clients in a wide range of industries.

Jacobson has considerable cross-border experience, having served as a partner at other international law firms. He also previously served as corporate counsel at Hewlett-Packard, where he advised on Hewlett-Packard’s merger with Compaq and the related proxy contest.

“Clients across industries have a strategic adviser in Matt, who can counsel on big-picture deal strategy and also navigate the crucial details on which successful transactions depend,” said David Chapin, managing partner, Ropes & Gray. “Our M&A practice already includes top practitioners around the globe. Clients will appreciate having one more high-caliber counselor in Matt.”
