Hilco Merchant Resources named Ian Fredericks to the new position of SVP, Strategic Growth/Client Development and chief legal officer. Fredericks has most recently been serving as the VP and assistant general counsel at the Northbrook, IL-based holding company, Hilco Global.

As SVP of Strategic Growth, Client Development and chief legal officer, Fredericks will have specific responsibility for leading HMR corporate growth initiatives, developing new business opportunities for the expanding HMR global retail platform &emdash; including current operations in Australia &emdash; serving in an advisory capacity to the boards of the recently acquired Hilco Fixture Finders and Deal Genius businesses and providing general legal support for all other ongoing HMR initiatives.

In this new position, Fredericks will report directly to Michael Keefe, CEO of Hilco Merchant Resources, and will serve as a critical part of the management of HMR. Keefe said, “We’re excited to have Ian join our team. He will be responsible for several critical growth initiatives as well as ongoing legal and transactional administration within Hilco Merchant Resources as we continue to expand our business around the world”.

Keefe continued, “As an integral member of the HMR executive management team, Ian provides tremendous bench strength for the continued growth and future of HMR. In this new position, he will provide us with a unique strategic advantage, delivering both hands on retail deal execution experience as well as extensive legal knowledge, which will undoubtedly help to service existing retail clients while identifying, structuring and closing new deals going forward.”

Prior to joining Hilco Global, Fredericks worked at the law firm of Skadden-Arps, where he served in the Corporate Restructuring group. Prior to Skadden he was with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor in the Bankruptcy and Corporate Restructuring group.

Early in his career Fredericks served with a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in the Bankruptcy Court in Philadelphia as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia. Frederick’s replacement as assistant general counsel at Hilco Global has already been selected and will be announced shortly.
