Andrew Herr joined Dorsey & Whitney as a partner in the firm’s finance and restructuring practice group, building on the recent additions of partners Marc Kushner and Michael Budabin to Dorsey & Whitney’s cross-border M&A group.

Herr represents lenders and borrowers in domestic and cross-border debt financing transactions, including syndicated secured and unsecured credit facilities, investment grade loans, acquisition and other leveraged finance transactions, mezzanine and holdco PIK financings, commercial and asset-based lending, private placements and structured finance transactions. He has particular expertise representing direct lenders in domestic and U.S.-Canada cross-border second lien financings in connection with acquisitions and other leveraged finance transactions sponsored by U.S. and Canadian private equity and pension fund sponsors. Herr has also represented sponsors in leveraged buyouts and has experience in securitizations, derivatives and financial restructuring.

Herr joined Dorsey & Whitney after nearly 14 years as a partner in Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt’s New York office. Prior to joining Osler, Herr was a member of the global finance group at Milbank, based in New York. During his nearly nine years at that firm, he was seconded to its Hong Kong, Silicon Valley and London offices. Before that, Herr began his legal career practicing Canadian law in the Toronto office of what is now Norton Rose.

Herr has worked on transactions involving borrowers in more than 20 countries. In addition to being admitted to practice in New York, Ontario, England and Wales, he is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, a Certified Financial Risk Manager and a fellow of the American College of Investment Counsel.

“Dorsey has built an impressive finance and restructuring practice and we’re delighted to add Andrew to this group,” Bill Stoeri, managing partner of Dorsey & Whitney, said. “This expanded team will allow us to continue building a top-tier practice that provides high-value legal services to our domestic and international clients, including those based in Canada.”

Dorsey & Whitney has made a concerted effort to grow in its New York office, adding 18 lawyers over the last two years. With the addition of Herr, Dorsey & Whitney’s ranks have grown by more than 60% since 2019.
