Walter Dolhare and Robert Engel have been appointed as co-heads of Wells Fargo Securities (WFS), the company’s capital markets, sales and trading, and investment banking business, effective July 1. In addition to their new roles as co-heads of Wells Fargo Securities, Dolhare and Engel will continue to oversee the Markets Division and IBCM, respectively, until additional leadership appointments are made.

The appointment follows the recent promotion of Jonathan Weiss, the former head of WFS, to succeed David Carroll as head of Wealth and Investment Management. Carroll is retiring from Wells Fargo effective July 1.

Dolhare and Engel are long-time senior leaders in Wells Fargo Securities, with Dolhare serving as head of the Markets Division and Engel as head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets (IBCM). Dolhare and Engel will remain based in Charlotte, NC and report to Perry Pelos, head of Wholesale Banking.

“Walter and Rob are strong, experienced leaders whose long history of working together to support our clients makes them a logical fit to co-lead the WFS platform,” Pelos said. “We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talented leaders on the WFS team that allows us to move forward seamlessly. Walter and Rob will partner to continue to grow this important business by meeting the evolving needs of our domestic and international clients.

Dolhare joined First Union Securities, a predecessor to Wachovia Securities, in 1995 and served in numerous sales management and leadership roles before assuming his current role in 2004. As head of the Markets Division, he is responsible for the domestic and international strategy and management of the firm’s market-leading trading and securities businesses.

Dolhare serves in leadership roles on boards for several Wells Fargo subsidiaries, industry associations and nonprofits, including the Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA), the McColl Center for Art and Innovation, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

Engel joined Wells Fargo as head of Mergers and Acquisitions in 2005, became the co-head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets in 2008, and assumed his current role in 2014. He has more than 30 years of investment banking experience, providing clients across industries with advice and execution for capital structure solutions, debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Engel ran Mergers and Acquisitions and Restructuring for Gleacher Partners in New York and London. Before joining Gleacher, he worked at the merchant bank Morgan Grenfell.
