B. Riley FBR, an investment bank and wholly-owned subsidiary of B. Riley Financial, hired Rehan Rashid and Robert Balsamo as senior vice president analysts. They joined equity analysts Thomas P. Curran, Carter Driscoll, and Lucas Pipes, and energy and natural resources policy analyst Benjamin Salisbury in B. Riley’s energy and natural resources group.

“We continue to expand our sector expertise to provide our clients with deeper industry insights and unique perspectives on the market,” said Bryant Riley, chairman and CEO of B. Riley Financial. “The energy and natural resources group is one of our largest research verticals and having Rehan and Robert join the firm strengthens the team and our overall equities group.”

Balsamo will focus on midstream energy and master limited partnerships. Previously, Balsamo held senior research positions at UBS Securities and Global Hunter Securities.

Rashid will concentrate on the exploration and production sector. Rashid rejoined B. Riley after spending two years on the buy side with EJF Capital.

Curran will focus on the oilfield services, equipment and drilling sector. Curran served as vice president at Wells Fargo Securities and previously held positions at Blaylock & Partners and Citigroup.

Driscoll will be dedicated to the alternative energy sector. He previously covered alternative energy at MLV & Co. in New York and was a technology, media and telecom analyst at several firms, including the Stanford Group and IRG Research.

Pipes will focus on metals and mining. Prior to B. Riley, he covered energy and mining for more than three years as a senior analyst and managing director at Brean Capital in New York. Prior to becoming a senior analyst, he held roles in both equity research and wealth management.

Salisbury will cover energy and natural resources policy. Before joining B. Riley, Salisbury served as a senior advisor for policy and international affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, and spent three years prior as an energy policy analyst at Lehman Brothers.

Rashid, Balsamo, Pipes and Salisbury will be based in the firm’s Arlington, VA office, while Curran and Driscoll will be in the New York office.
