Gerber Finance Appoints Kaplan to Executive Vice President
Thursday, January 14, 2010
Gerber Finance Inc., a boutique finance company that provides asset-based lines of credit to small- and medium-sized businesses, announced the appointment, with effect from September 1, 2009, of Laurence Kaplan as executive vice president.
Kaplan will oversee new and existing deals with clients across Gerber's portfolio, which includes a sizeable portfolio of cyclical and seasonal businesses. Gerber is a specialist lender looking beyond receivables to the underlying balance sheet when making a credit decision. Gerber grew 20% in 2009, with the majority of the growth being organic.
"We are well-capitalized and able to lend to businesses, allowing them to survive and thrive in this difficult lending environment," Gerber CEO Gerald Joseph said.
A lawyer by profession, Kaplan spent more than ten years at a global commodities trading firm working in South Africa, Switzerland and the United States. In addition to his duties in the finance side of the business, Kaplan will oversee the company's expansion into equity investing. The target companies will include both existing clients and new opportunities.
