The New Jersey Turnaround Management Association (NJTMA) announced that its NextGen division will host an educational and networking event, “The Art of Networking: Creating Rainmakers,” presented by Lyle Katz of Evolve Bank & Trust. The event will be held at Don Pepe restaurant in Newark, NJ on Thursday, June 27, 2013. The event is open to all ages, not just NextGen members.

Katz will provide attendees with real-world examples of how networking strategies have made him successful including:

  • How to identify and build your network;
  • How to meet people effortlessly and build relationships quickly and efficiently;
  • How to obtain referrals;
  • Essential questions to ask during networking meetings; and
  • How to recognize and filter the right and wrong networking partner.
  • Katz didn’t know that networking would become pivotal in his life until necessity prompted him to make some significant changes in his career. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and later Fordham University Business School with an MBA, he left the corporate world and began to reinvent himself to be marketable in the mortgage banking industry. He realized that while his education and experience were important, networking was key to putting him on the fast track.

    He researched networking strategies and principles and employed them to build his mortgage clientele base. One year later he was the #1 producer for his bank branch, generating all of his own business. One of the most significant tools he used to build his network was to cultivate what he calls “centers of influence.” These are mutually-beneficial relationships with professionals in various industries. Realizing that truly successful networking requires an “it’s not about me” attitude, he began referring others to his “centers of influence.” He found that the resulting reciprocity of referrals from his network far exceeded anything he could have done on his own.
