Moore & Van Allen announced that Zachary H. Smith joined the firm’s Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring team as a member, based in the firm’s Charlotte office.

Smith concentrates his practice in the areas of distressed situations and bankruptcy, representing strategic investors, creditors, lenders and debtors in in-court and out-of-court restructurings, including complex restructuring matters pertaining to Puerto Rico.

“I know I speak for the team when I say we are thrilled to have Zach as the newest member. His practice will be a tremendous asset to both our clients and the firm,” stated Bankruptcy Team Leader and Firm Member David Eades.

Moore & Van Allen Chairman Ernie Reigel expressed similar sentiments: “We welcome Zach and look forward to capitalizing on his national practice experience, which will clearly enrich our bankruptcy team’s existing relationships and strengths.”

Smith has been featured in Turnarounds & Workouts and Law360, is an author and panelist on bankruptcy and restructuring topics and is a Lecturer in Law (part-time faculty member) at Boston University School of Law, where he teaches a financial restructuring seminar. This year, Smith has been recognized as one of Law360’s five Bankruptcy “Rising Stars,” as one of Turnarounds & Workouts’ twelve “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers” and as a New York Metro Super Lawyers’ Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights “Rising Star.”

Smith earned his J.D. from Boston University. He graduated cum laude from both institutions.
