The TMA Chicago/Midwest is hosting a breakfast titled “Banking’s Changing Landscape: The MB Financial Bank merger with Cole Taylor Bank,” on January 9, 2014. The transaction was the largest merger between two Chicago-based banks.

Corporate restructuring, banking, M&A and other financial industry professionals will take part in a panel discussion with Mitch Feiger, president and CEO, MB Financial, and Mark Hoppe, president and CEO, MB Financial Bank, led by moderator William Burgess, principal, Investment Banking, Sandler O’Neill + Partners.

Topics include:

  • Surviving the Storm: Discover how each institution took different paths during the most severe financial crisis of the past 100 years and hear how the industry changed.
  • The Deal: Gain insight into how the deal came together and why the merger between MB and Cole Taylor made sense.
  • The Outlook: Learn whether the transaction is an indication of a coming wave of financial institution mergers and what the merger means for the outlook of banking in Chicago.   • Feiger has more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry and has served as CEO and/or president of MB Financial for more than 22 years. He has extensive industry experience, invaluable knowledge of all aspects of the company’s business and operations and deep ties to the Chicago area and its local business community.

    Hoppe joined MB upon the acquisition of Cole Taylor Bank, where he had been president and CEO since joining the bank in 2008. His experience in commercial banking includes more than 27 years with LaSalle Bank, where, among other responsibilities, he served as CEO of LaSalle Bank Midwest in Michigan. Hoppe has extensive commercial banking experience and is active in Chicago’s business and philanthropic communities.

    Burgess has extensive financial industry experience and maintains a specific focus on mergers and acquisitions and capital raising for depositories and insurance institutions. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in more than 25 domestic and cross-border M&A transactions whose total value exceeds $55 billion and over 25 capital underwriting and corporate finance transactions with proceeds of over $20 billion. Recently, Burgess was the advisor to Taylor Capital Group in its sale to MB Financial.
