Paul J. Keenan, Jr., a shareholder in the Business Reorganization and Financial Restructuring Practice at the Miami office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, has been named to leadership positions with the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals and the American Bankruptcy Institute’s International Committee.

INSOL International appointed Keenan the chair of its Model Law Implementation Steering Committee. In this role, Keenan will lead the committee as it liaises with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law on the drafting of model laws on cross-border restructuring.

In addition, the committee is charged with proliferating the adoption of the current UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency in foreign countries and assisting in implementation of the Model Law after its adoption. In 2006, Keenan played a key role in the adoption of the Model Law in Colombia, including touring the country with INSOL to provide seminars on the Model Law to bankruptcy judges and practitioners. Keenan will serve a two-year term.

The American Bankruptcy Institute named Keenan the membership relations director of its International Committee. In this role, Keenan will inform the committee’s constituents of its various activities and work to build membership and engagement with other American Bankruptcy Institute activities. He will serve a one-year term.

“I am proud to join INSOL International and the American Bankruptcy Institute in leadership positions where I can have a significant impact on the profession,” Keenan said. “I look forward to working with these top-tier organizations to support the ongoing practice of bankruptcy law both internationally and domestically.”

Paul has substantial experience in cross-border bankruptcies and restructurings.
