Grant Thornton promoted Billy Moore from chief financial officer to a newly formed role as chairman of the firm’s Operating Committee. Grant Thornton veteran Sam Shaw will succeed Moore as CFO.

In his new role, Moore will lead numerous operational teams and functions at the firm and report to CEO Mike McGuire.

“Billy brings a unique combination of operational vision and leadership skills that will strengthen our ‘Status Go’ philosophy throughout every part of our firm,” said McGuire. “Billy is the embodiment of a firm centered on helping clients overcome challenges and create value.”

Moore previously served as the Professional Standards partner for the firm’s Carolinas practice. Prior to joining Grant Thornton in 2009, he served as the executive vice president and CFO of several publicly traded multinational companies, including Unifi, Polymer Group and International Textile Group. He also spent nearly 20 years with a professional services firm in numerous roles, including audit partner and managing partner of several offices.

Shaw joined Grant Thornton in 2006 and most recently served as managing director of Finance and Corporate Development.

“As our new CFO, Sam will bring strong leadership and great strategic focus to our financial operations,” said McGuire. “He has deep knowledge of our business and industry – both where it’s been and where it’s going. He’s led the way on important acquisitions and other transformational programs, and is a key leader driving change in the professional services industry.”
