According to the FDIC, there have been ten insured bank failures in the U.S. year-to-date through April 2013. The regulator noted there were six failures in April after announcing only four during the first three months of 2013. This year’s April YTD total compares to 21, 39, 64 and 29 in years 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009, respectively.

During the period 2009 through 2012, the FDIC recorded a total of 440 failures during this four-year period with the majority of closings occurring in 2009 (140) and 2010 (157).
