Alvarez & Marsal added business leader and senior executive, Jeffrey Bartel, to support client service development in the Southeast region and firm-wide. Bartel joins as a senior adviser based in Miami and will serve in a firm-wide advisory role for business needs in South Florida, Atlanta and Washington D.C.

Previously, Bartel was a senior corporate officer and member of the executive leadership and operating teams at Florida Power & Light Company and its parent company NextEra Energy, where he led corporate and external affairs for 10 million customers and hundreds of government entities and agencies in Florida, and oversaw regulatory affairs including approval of $20 billion in capital projects and regulatory filings. He served as the company’s first chief compliance and corporate responsibility officer with responsibilities across financial, operational, regulatory, legal and human resource matters for 14,000 employees and business operations in 24 states, Canada and Spain. Prior to that, Bartel served as a senior partner at two of Florida’s largest law firms, chairing their respective land use, zoning and governmental affairs departments. Early in his career, he served as chief of staff in the U.S. Congress and as the top aide to the mayor of Miami.

“With his extensive business operations and leadership background, deep experience with federal, state and local government, and broad range of industry-specific expertise, Jeff brings a compelling and valuable set of skills to the firm as we continue to expand in the Southeast,” said Ernesto Perez, a managing director with Alvarez & Marsal and interim CEO of the firm’s tax practice. “The unique depth and breadth of his background will help our clients address the critical issues, trends and challenges they’re facing in today’s evolving business world.”

With more than 25 years of experience in government, law, corporate and entrepreneurial initiatives, Bartel brings expertise in management and executive leadership, public-private partnerships, regulatory and government affairs, and operations, alongside his extensive knowledge of legal, compliance and corporate responsibility, corporate governance, real estate and capital markets issues. He advises clients on transforming operations, improving business performance and creating value across industry sectors including financial services, energy and utilities, private equity, real estate, retail companies and public sector organizations.

Bartel also currently serves as chairman and managing director of Hamptons Group, a private investment firm focused on capital markets with diversified public and private assets and venture-oriented investments in areas such as real estate, financial services, infrastructure, energy, retail, franchising and entertainment businesses.

“This is an exciting opportunity to serve in an advisory role for Alvarez & Marsal and to focus on optimizing client opportunities and outcomes,” said Bartel.
