Alvarez & Marsal Taxand, an affiliate of leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal, announced that Michael Eagan joined the firm’s federal tax practice as a managing director in Washington, D.C., while James Stanley, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, joined as a managing director based in San Francisco.

The appointments of Eagan and Stanley, along with the promotions of Adam Benson and Christopher Howe to managing director, support the growing depth of A&M Taxand’s federal, global and transactional tax capabilities.

“Public and large private companies are constantly coming under increasing attacks by financial statement auditors over tax provisions and disclosures,” said Albert Liguori, a managing director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand. “Mike’s breadth and depth of experience in this area are critical to helping companies navigate these mounting risks.”

Prior to joining A&M, Eagan was a partner at a CPA firm in Reston, VA. Previously, he led Beers & Cutler’s tax department and served as partner to the firm where he successfully advised public and private companies on a broad range of federal, state and international tax matters.

With more than 18 years of experience, Stanley has transactional experience in structuring all aspects of domestic and cross-border acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures and reorganizations. Stanley advises private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds, corporations and investment banking firms on the tax and financial impacts around corporate finance, transactional deal structuring, due diligence and the design and implementation of tax efficient financing structures.

“Jim has been at the epicenter of significant global M&A work particularly in the technology sector over the last decade,” said Ernie Perez, Global Practice Leader of Alvarez & Marsal Taxand and the firm’s Transaction Advisory Tax practice. “Jim’s cross-border experience extends our world class tax expertise and enhances our ability to help clients create value across the globe.”

Prior to joining A&M, Stanley led the M&A tax group out of Silicon Valley for PwC.

The managing director promotions of New York-based Adam Benson and Christopher Howe further bolster A&M Taxand’s bench strength. Benson focuses on cross-border private equity and strategic acquisitions in the software, technology, and technology enhanced consulting/outsourcing industries.

Howe has significant experience in transactional and general corporate tax matters in both bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy settings as well as serving private equity and strategic acquisitions in the financial services industry.
