AlixPartners announced the appointment of Mat Hughes as a managing director in the firm’s Economics-Consulting Practice, which assists legal counsels, board members and corporate executives with accounting, forensic accounting and valuation expertise in disputes, litigation and investigations.

Hughes joins from the international law firm Ashurst, where he was a partner as well as the firm’s chief economist. In his 20 years at Ashurst, he built and led a successful economics team that worked with competition lawyers on some of the highest-profile, ground-breaking cases in the field. In all, he has more than 23 years’ experience advising on the economics of UK and EU competition law, and has substantial experience in dealing with the European Commission, UK regulatory authorities and utilities regulators, and antitrust authorities in other jurisdictions.

Prior to joining Ashurst, Hughes was an economist at the UK’s Office of Fair Trading, the UK’s consumer and competition authority.
